Long queues at baggage and security checkpoints are an inconvenience many travellers experience every day in terminals around the world. In fact, many passengers miss flights because of long waiting times.
These waiting times often increase when passengers forget to separate electronic devices from their bags, because each item has to be scanned separately, as do liquids.
The recovery of tourism has allowed the aviation sector to take off again, but it also brings security challenges. To streamline this process, one company has developed a new scanner called Helixview, which could revolutionize the terminal experience for both passengers and airlines by speeding up security controls in a remarkable way.
This improvement was created using artificial intelligence (AI) and cybersecurity. It consists of a fixed, compact and lightweight scanner that combines digital X-ray scanning with 3D image reconstruction.
With this advance in security filters, passengers and airport employees will no longer have to go through the tedious task of removing objects from their bags. The advanced technology can detect all types of prohibited items, including explosives, knives and even disassembled weapons placed in separate parts.
Certification of this technology was expected by the end of 2023, and it is expected to reduce waiting times at filters while also certifying the security of all travellers.
